Spotlight on the Opportunity Markets

  • This report aims to highlight where the growth opportunities are within the following markets: China, South Korea, Southeast Asia (SEA), India, Middle East/North Africa (MENA), Türkiye, and Latin America (LATAM). In the past year, these markets once again saw some important—mostly positive—shifts.
  • Last year, the US tariffs had resulted in every territory’s economic risk seeing an uptick. With that danger now largely abated, in 2026, IDG downgraded risk in every territory.
  • Political risk rating was lowered in most territories as well and not increased in any market. While several Opps Market countries enacted new regulations around gaming in the past year, these new rules are geared toward reducing market concentration and protecting consumers/local gaming companies. Therefore, IDG views them as a positive rather than a negative for the long-term healthy of the industry in these countries.
  • Console saw the biggest loss in marketing opportunity rating in 2026, due to increased prices on hardware, driven by semiconductor/chip shortages. South Korea and MENA now remain the only markets expected to experience significant revenue growth on this platform.
  • The opportunities on PC remained largely unchanged, with the exception of LATAM, which saw an increased rating on this platform.
  • Mobile was a mixed bag. South Korea and MENA’s opportunity ratings were downgraded—largely because their mobile gaming markets have already grown so mature—but SEA and LATAM’s opportunity ratings were increased.
  • Over the next 5 years, the greatest growth opportunities look to be mobile gaming in China, SEA and LATAM, and PC gaming in China.
