Spotlight on the Opportunity Markets

Topics Covered:
  • Nearly every market covered in IDG’s Opportunity Markets Special Report has seen an increase in IDG’s economic risk score due to the current US administration’s inclination to raise tariffs.
  • China’s gaming market saw growth across mobile, PC and console in 2024 and appeared to have many tailwinds behind it through Q1 2025, but as the biggest target of the US’s trade tariffs, its outlook now looks the most shaky.
  • South Korea’s market potential still shows promise, especially on PC, but new legislature that cracks down on foreign gaming companies operating in the market present heightened risks.
  • Southeast Asia’s gaming market experienced a bit of contraction on console in 2024, but grew in mobile and PC gaming revenue. Its appeal as a test market remains strong, particularly in Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines.
  • Similarly, Latin America’s game market also saw a decline in console gaming revenue, but strong growth in PC and mobile gaming revenue. Due to increased government support for the games industry in countries like Brazil and Argentina, its long-term outlook still looks strong.
  • Being one of the smallest markets among IDG’s Opportunity Markets, India also has some of the strongest growth potential, but its recent tensions with Pakistan adds a bit of risk to this market.
  • Middle East/North Africa’s gaming market continues to show solid growth, thanks to big investments from government, private investors and foreign game companies.
  • Many of the economic issues that have plagued Türkiye over the past few years showed improvement in 2024. Its mobile gaming market shows particular promise.
